Easter Concert in Tromsø

The Arctic Philharmonic and the Norwegian Soloists’ Choir join forces to perform Joseph Haydn's Harmoniemesse and premiere a newly composed work by Ørjan Matre. The piece will offer a unique sonic experience, with Matre utilizing the entire church.

Harmoniemesse in B-flat major is Haydn's last major composition. The title refers to the German term for wind instruments, "Harmonie," an instrumental group that plays a prominent role in the work. The mass is one of six that Haydn wrote towards the end of his life, and many consider it to be the best of these.

Franz Josef Haydn lived and worked during the Viennese Classical period, spanning the second half of the 18th century and the transition into the 19th century. In this mass, he displays great stylistic range, incorporating references from the Baroque while also pointing towards Romanticism. Emotionally, the mass covers a wide range, from the calm and nostalgic to the grand and triumphant.

We warmly welcome you to a unique concert experience to begin the holiday season.
