About the concert
Mozart died in the middle of the creative process with his Requiem, but managed to deliver a timeless masterpiece which still moves us today. Lasse Thoresen also deals with existential themes in his newest large work for choir and orchestra; a meditative choral symphony entitled QN: The Being.
Lasse Thoresen (b.1949), is an advisor and long-standing leading figure among Norwegian contemporary composers, and presenting one of his new works is always an important moment. Thoresen has produced a number of solo concertos, chamber music and orchestra works, and his influences include Norwegian folk music, French spectral music and various Asian forms of music, to name only a few. The result is a body of work which is exceptionally rich in terms of style and expression, and which includes pieces that are both topical and enduringly fascinating. Many of Thoresen’s compositions possess a strong spiritual dimension, and this new choral symphony is no exception.

The Oslo Philharmonic
The Oslo Philharmonic is a symphony orchestra of international renown. It was formed in 1919 and today has 108 musicians in its ranks. The Oslo Philharmonic plays between 60 and 70 concerts in Oslo each year, mostly at Oslo Concert Hall, but also at several other venues. The orchestra has a broad symphonic repertoire, plays with internationally acclaimed soloists and conductors and regularly tours in Norway and abroad. The Oslo Philharmonic consists of 108 musicians and an administration of 20. Vasily Petrenko is the orchestra´s chief conductor with a contract until 2020.
The Norwegian Soloists' Choir
The Norwegian Soloists' Choir is an innovative young ensemble, steeped in a rich history. As one of Europe's leading chamber choirs, they perform spectacular concerts in Norway and abroad, in concert halls and churches, in caravans and in abandoned factory venues. The Norwegian Soloists' Choir consists of 26 hand-picked, professional singers who have a tremendous ability to blend their voices, resulting in a highly distinctive choral expression. Along with its celebrated artistic leader Grete Pedersen, the choir achieves ambitious artistic goals through constant development.
Ann Helen Moen
Ann-Helen Moen is a lyric soprano known for her clarity and beauty of tone as well as for the focus of her delivery whether in concert or on the opera stage. She has performed with some of the most distinguished ensembles and companies in the world, from the Bach Collegium Japan and the MDR Symphony Orchestra to the opera houses of Zurich and Hannover.
Ingeborg Gillebo
Ingeborg Gillebo has appeared at the Metropolitan Opera New York, Oper Zürich, Bayreuth Festival, Theater an der Wien, Théâtre du Capitole de Toulouse, Opéra Royal de Versailles, Norwegian National Opera, Festspiele Baden-Baden and Drottningholm Festival Stockholm. Her roles include Mélisande, Nicklausse, Siebel, Hänsel, Annio, Cherubino, Dorabella and Costanza (in Haydn’s l’isola disabitata).
Magnus Staveland
Magnus Staveland has appeared in opera houses and festivals such as Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Teatro La Fenice di Venezia, Teatro Real Madrid, Staatsoper Berlin, Theater an der Wien, Opéra Garnier Paris, Opéra du Rhin Strasbourg, Théâtre de la Monnaie Brussels, Vlaamse Opera Antwerp, Perm State Opera, Royal Swedish Opera, Royal Danish Opera, Norwegian National Opera, Innsbrucker Festwochen, Festival d’Aix-en-Provence and Drottningholm Festival Stockholm.
Dirigent Peter Szilvay
Peter Szilvay is one of the most sought after Norwegian conductors and is often seen both on the operastage and in front of orchestras. His career developed quickly after his acclaimed final diploma exam with the Norwegian radio orchestra. Peter Szilvay has also composed several pieces and worked in the early years as a professional violaplayer. After his exam he worked as assistant conductor in the Stavanger Symphony orchestra and served Mariss Jansons as PA for three years. In 1999 he won the competition «Conductor of the year» in Oslo.
