The concept of the seven deadly sins dates back many centuries in Christian tradition. Over the years, writers, filmmakers, composers, and others have created art with various perspectives on these sins.

When the dynamic duo Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill tackled this theme in "Die sieben Todsünden" (ein "sung ballet") in 1933, it was with a satirical angle.

We meet Anna, who travels through the USA to earn money for the farm and her family back home in Louisiana. The desire for human dignity meets the demand for submission and showing gratitude to the powerful and wealthy in order to survive. The text meets Kurt Weill's characteristic music, a blend of 20th-century expressionism and the catchy melodies of cabaret.
