After auditions in November, The Norwegian Soloists’ Choir has taken in two new basses.
Here you can get to know Gunther Vandeven.
Belgian singer Gunter Vandeven has performed regularly as a soloist and ensemble singer with some of the most renowned musical ensembles such as La Petite Bande, Collegium Vocale Gent, L’Arpeggiata, Bl!ndman, Ensemble Jaques Moderne and Currende.
For me, the feeling of connection that can be achieved when singing together with others is very powerful. It is a connection on a vocal and musical level, of course, but it is also a connection between people. Together you are creating something that you couldn't create on your own. As an individual you are part of the whole, but not in an anonymous way – change one singer and the whole will be different. Is this perhaps not also a metaphor for life itself?
Guther has studied singing at the Lemmens Institute in Leuven with Lieve Vanhaverbeke after which he continued his training with Margreet Honig at the Dutch National Opera Academy in Amsterdam. He participated in various masterclasses led by, amongst others, Andreas Scholl, Michael Chance, Gidon Saks, and Ann Murray. He is currently being coached by Neil Baker in London.
Gunther is regularly invited to participate in opera and music theatre productions. In Tokyo he sang as a soloist next to Emma Kirkby in Purcell’s The Fairy Queen, and he performed with B’Rock in the production Waar is mijn ziel? and Dido and Aeneas. For many years Gunther was a regular soloist with Barokopera Amsterdam performing in venues throughout Belgium, The Netherlands and France including the Amerdam Concertgebouw, Théatre de l’Athenée in Paris and the Opéra de Reims. Since 2020 he conducts the choir of Brussels Cathedral. Next to singing, Gunther is also a passionate shiatsu teacher and practitioner.
We welcome Gunther as a permanent singer in the Norwegian Soloists’ choir!
